Holy Lake Namtso Tour |
Namtso Lake, literally heavenly lake, is situated in a
mountainous area about 60km, northwest of Damxiong
County. Namtso Lake extents 70km. from east to west. and
30km. from south to north, covering an area of 1,920 sq
km. and altitude of 4.748 m above sea level. It is the
biggest lake in Tibet and the second biggest salt lake
in China as well as the highest lake in the world.
Namtso Lake is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet,
playing an important role among Tibetans. Every sheep
year in Tibetan calendar, the Trekking Namtso Lake
Festival is held and countless pilgrims from far away
visit the Lake to pay homage Tibet a place for the
traveler to cast away any preconceptions you may have
and join in the journey of discovery along the way... at
least for a while. We have designed a several tours to

Itinerary in Detail |

Day 01 : |
Fly to Lhasa airport and transfer 60km to
the hotel, drive 1 hours to Yerlung Tsangpo
and Lhasa Kyichu River. O/n Hotel |
Day 02 : |
Morning visit Potala palace, the seat of
both religion and politics in Tibet. It was
built in the 7th century by Tibetan king
Songtsen Gampo and later renovated by the
5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century.
Afternoon visit Sera monastery, 5 km north
of Lhasa city. It was built in 1419 by
Jamchen Choeji, a disciple of Tsongkhapa,
founder of the Gelugpa sect. Sera is one of
the three major monasteries of the yellow
sect in Tibet. and visit Tibet Museum. |
Day 03 : |
Morning visit Drepung monastery, the largest
Monastery of the Gelugpa sect in Lhasa. It
was built in 1416 by Jamyang chojie a
disciple of Tsongkhapa. Afternoon visit
Jokhang Temple and Barkhor market; this is
the holiest shrine in Tibet with houses of
golden statues of the Shakyamuni Budhha,
brought to Tibet by the Chinese princess
Wenchen. |
Day 04 : |

Day 05 : |
Namtso Lake –Yangbajing - Lhasa, 80 km north
of Lhasa, is famous for its hot springs, it
was said that long time ago, before the sky
and the earth was separated. The whole world
was in total darkness. People living at the
foot of Mt. Nianqingtanggula were suffering.
One day, a golden phoenix to flied to the
area. determined to create brightness by
sacrificing itself. it threw one of its
bright eyes onto the ground. A fairy caught
the eye. and then a bright lamp arose in the
air. Snow capped peaks of Mt.
Nianqingtanggula appeared. Grassland like
huge carpet emerged. Happiness came into
Tibetan people. However, greedy man near
Yangbajing coveted the lamp. He took a witch
man’s idea to sharpen his hatred into an
arrow to shoot the lamp. The lamp was broken
then. The pieces of the lamp dropped onto
the ground, turning into hot spring and
burned the man to his end. People said that
the hot springs were the fairy’s tears. |
